CONVERSATION PIECES

2023/2024

series of lithographic prints, 56 × 79 cm each

The CONVERSATION PIECES are lithographs produced using a special technique for creating simultaneous perspective images: objects to be ‘printed’ are enveloped in latex using a vacuum. Where the material touches the object, the latex cloth is sprayed with printing ink, which is then transferred to the lithographic stone. The results are almost photorealistic images of the objects used. However, as their surfaces are depicted all around, their shape changes and they appear strangely distorted: an interesting contrast to the otherwise detailed reproduction. The lithographs show analogue devices that the smartphone has displaced from everyday life, such as the dial telephone, the typewriter, the portable radio or the slide projector. As objects, they are associated with a nostalgic look back at the past. Just as our memory transforms things, the printing process also translates the three-dimensional devices into the two-dimensional surface.
